Koh (Ryusoulger)/Umika (LuPat): Though We Took A Long Way

When we met, everything was awkward. And though we took the long way, we made it, didn’t we? — Dearest, Hamasaki Ayumi

“Oh, come on! He’s late again?”

Umika would’ve kept puffing her cheeks in annoyance. But of course, she knew that the one she was supposed to meet that day made a last minute call mentioning about being late due to an emergency errand. She didn’t intend to cancel her appointment that day as she’d been anticipating this for days, if she was going to be honest.

But for her to wait for 30 minutes already? Just what kind of errand did that guy end up doing for her to wait that long for him to arrive, anyway?

Once again, she took a deep breath and looked around. She hoped that it would at least pacify her annoyance for that guy’s tardiness.

“Umika-chan! I’m really sorry. It took longer than expected to finish.”

Despite hearing that person catch his breath, possibly from running hard, it wasn’t enough for her to calm down. But she didn’t want to say anything that might hurt him. And so she chose to keep quiet instead.

However, it might have been a bad idea.

“Umika-chan…? Please don’t be mad. I really am sorry for being late. Please forgive me.”

And the guy even had the audacity to place his hands together and look at her with pleading eyes. Well, at least she could tell that he was sorry. Then again, it truly looked like it wasn’t enough.

Umika huffed and proceeded to enter the amusement park first. The guy soon followed and still continued to plead for her forgiveness.

It was a funny scene, to be honest. At least this guy knew he was in the wrong for being late for that long. They were supposed to be on a fun date that they planned weeks ahead as soon as they both confirmed their free time. And yet, something like this happened.

Not that it was intended. But still…

“Umika-chan…”

This time, she faced the guy and looked him straight in the eyes. She just stood there with that nonchalant expression — which she would never show unless she was really angry — as she continued staring at him.

“You better give me a proper explanation as to why you’re late today for that long. But do it AFTER we finish this date. Are we clear, Koh?”

She didn’t know if he was truly scared of her or just making fun of her. But Koh nodded fast and soon smiled, like her anger didn’t happen.

Urgh! Sometimes, she hated this guy’s overly optimistic attitude. Has this guy ever been angry before?

“Thank you so much, Umika-chan!”

To her surprise, Koh actually pulled her to a tight hug. Her eyes widened at the sudden action that it didn’t fully register in her mind until a few seconds more had passed. When it finally did, she tried to push him away but to no avail.

Koh was just too strong for her.

“W-wait a minute! Koh, let me go! We’re in public!” she hissed as she tried even harder to push him away.

Still no movement. But the longer she would stay in his arms like that, the warmer her heart felt. Moments later, she smiled and decided to just relish this while it was happening.

“I missed you, you know,” Koh said soon after, almost in a whisper. "I can't believe it's been weeks since we had our last date."

"What do you expect? We've been busy lately. Things hadn't been easy for both of us."

"Even so… I hope it's easy for us to get together like this no matter how busy we both are."

Umika could only smile wistfully at that. Even she would wish for that same thing whenever she missed being with Koh. Despite being together for almost a year now, it was still hard dealing with their yearning to be with each other and just have fun together.

"But we're here now, right? And this only makes this day even more special for both of us. It might have been easy at the start. And yet, here we are, at last. Finally together."

Okay. Those words might have been a little cheesy for her to say to Koh. Then again, it was the truth. She wouldn't mind saying it to him if needed.

She heard Koh heave a sigh before speaking. "That's why I'm really sorry for being late. I didn't even expect that I would be late for this long and I feel bad."

Umika couldn't help smiling at Koh's complaints. Nevertheless, hearing him this open to her felt amazing. It really meant he trusted her.

"Just don't do it again, okay? But at least you told me early on that you would be late. I would've left already if you decided to ghost on me," she joked before finally returning Koh's embrace.

She didn't care if they were in public. She was happy and feeling light. She would at least do her best to cherish it while it was happening at the moment.

Her heart felt soaring when she heard Koh laugh. He still didn't release her, though. "There's no way in hell that I would do that. I didn't like seeing you angry at me for so long."

Oh, heck! Maybe she should forget about the date. Okay, that was a joke. But this moment with Koh like this? This was still an amazing date for her, no matter how one would look at it.

At the moment, she wouldn't exchange it for anything else. She wouldn't exchange this guy who was making her feel loved and special for anything.

"Let's go. We don't want to waste what we've planned for this day to be special," Koh said later on, finally breaking that warm moment between them.

With a sigh, Umika finally distanced himself from him. But she didn't let go of his hand. When she looked up to Koh, she smiled before nodding, finally responding to his words.

It all started crazy for them when they first met. But even so, the craziness was still worth it, now that they were finally together. Now all she wanted to do was to do her best to make it last longer for both her and Koh.

New one-shot from an old edit. Yehey! Wow! I should really do my best to be consistent with my updates. Especially the fanfiction ones sitting here on this site. And yes, I know there's a lot of them. Anyway, this one-shot is just simple and not overly complicated or dramatic. I should do that more often, right? Thank you for reading up to this point. I really appreciate it. ありがとうございます。
