Koh (Ryusoulger)/Umika (Lupinranger VS Patranger): Who I Want To Understand

I didn’t think that a person so strange, with different thoughts and values, would become a person I want to understand… — Anata Ni Koishite (In Love With You), Fujita Maiko

Not to make things even more complicated, but it seemed that Umika would just want to scream and forget all about that date that she reluctantly promised to Koh. Then again, in her and her friends’ opinion, it was better than going on a date with Sakuya.

In her opinion, a date with that guy was more troublesome than she could ever think of.

But… what exactly had made her accept that date deal with Koh, anyway? That one time they collaborated on a battle should’ve been the last time she would ever see that Ryusoul Knight.

“Wow, you’re early!”

That voice snapped Umika out of her musings. Of course, it made her raise her head and turn to the source of it. She frowned at the sight of Koh approaching her with a smile while wearing… casual clothes?

Okay, this was a surprising turnabout, considering that she knew the Ryusoul Knights were expected to wear their traditional tribal clothes most of the time. So the sight of Koh wearing casual clothes just for that day was something surprising — not to mention confusing.

“What took you so long?” Umika asked with her hands on her waist as she pouted.

“Why are you angry? I’m pretty sure I’m still on time.”

Well, it was the truth. So what was the reason for her to feel frustrated and irritated while waiting for him?

She took a deep breath and bowed to Koh afterwards. Of course, the action had caught the red knight off guard, but only for a short while.

“Umika?”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to act all grumpy.”

Koh smiled and shook his head. “Well, you did arrive early. And the weather is hot today, so you have all the reasons to become grumpy.” Then, to add another surprise for her, he laid his hand in front of her.

She was confused, without a doubt. But she chose to snap out of it and just enjoy today’s event that she still accepted, regardless of the fact that it was done so reluctantly. There was something about Koh that day he asked her on a “casual date”, as he stated it, that made her accept that date.

She took his hand and they both left the place where she was waiting for him. As annoyed as she was earlier while she waited for Koh, his simple gestures towards her seemed to have dissipated all that in an instant.

This doesn’t happen whenever Sakuya would try to do the same. And to think Koh and Sakuya almost had the same childish personality, if one would truly care to notice.

She just… felt comfortable around Koh.

At that thought, Umika couldn’t help showing a gentle smile as she glanced at her hands clasped on Koh's.

"We haven't even fully started, and yet you're smiling already?"

Despite his words suddenly snapping her out of her thoughts, the smile never left her face.

"There's nothing wrong with that, right? After all, you said that I have to enjoy myself today as we go throughout our date. Even if it's just a casual one."

Umika's eyes almost widened like a saucer at her response as soon as they registered in her mind. What in the world was she saying? Did she actually blurt that out?

Despite her surprise, she faced Koh who smiled wider, in return. Yup, he liked her answer. That much was obvious.

“I’m glad you think that way.” Without warning, he pulled her from there and both of them started running towards the nearest ride from their meeting spot.

They just went and tried one ride after another. For Umika, it was a fascinating sight since she doesn’t usually go to such places, even before she became a Lupinranger. As for Koh, well… He doesn’t even go out of the mountain even before becoming a Ryusoulger. So everything felt as if it was just the first time for them.

“Now that’s funny…” she couldn’t help muttering as she watched Koh approached her with two soft ice cream cones on each of his hands. Before she knew it, a smile appeared on her face.

That action had only made her sigh.

“You really look like you're in a good mood today,” Koh commented as he finally reached her and handed her one of the soft ice creams.

Umika just quietly took it and Koh sat behind her. Both of them enjoyed their own ice cream while watching other people enjoying their day at the amusement park.

“They really look like they’re having fun,” Koh said, which soon broke the silence between them.

Of course, it was enough to catch her attention and make her stop eating her ice cream. “That’s what the amusement park was supposed to bring to people. Let them have fun, in hopes that it would give them precious memories to treasure for a long time.”

“And if it would help them forget their problems even for some moments, then it was definitely doing its job to everyone around here.”

This time, Umika looked at Koh who had his attention fixated on the people around them. In the next, she would see him smiling at some of them children enjoying the rides or the foods they were eating.

It was truly a carefree moment to look at and appreciate in her opinion. Especially since it was unknown to most people that she and Koh were doing their best to make sure that they’d be able to retain the peace that all of them were enjoying at the moment.

“Yes. I think it did succeed.”

Soon after, Koh faced her and smiled cheekily. “Did our casual date here do the same thing to you?”

She didn’t know why, but she was supposed to be able to answer that easily. But the moment she faced Koh, however, she became speechless. He didn’t seem to mind it, though. It looked like he was patient in waiting for her to answer.

A few more moments had passed. Umika took a breath that broke the silence hovering between them.

“You can say that. Thank you… for doing this. I really thought I would have a bad time hanging out with you, even if this was just a casual date, as you’d call it.”

“I’m glad.” To her confusion, she saw Koh heave a sigh. And it looked like this one was done out of relief.

Could he be worried that she wouldn’t like the time she would end up spending with her? Before she could even stop herself, she smiled wide and chuckled. It seemed that her action was enough to see some relief flashed in Koh’s eyes.

Regardless of how it all started, Umika had a feeling at that moment that such a casual date would be just a one time thing for her and Koh. But for now, she chose to enjoy it and not think about what would happen in the next coming days.

Okay. I just realized now that I previously wrote this same pairing before. And I was shocked to know that I also wrote a date themed fic for these two back then. Like... Wow! Why didn't I realized that? Gosh! In any case, I still wrote this and posted this here so I guess there was nothing I can do about it. Maybe I should do the first date theme on the other pairings later on. For now, thank you for reading until here. I appreciate it. 本当にありがとうございます
