A lot of them said that they were not meant to be together. He was handsome, he was amazing, he was skillful. As for her, a nobody. A wallflower. Just someone ordinary.
At least for them.
Pero hindi iyon ang pinaniniwalaan ni Lei sa simula't sapul mula nang makilala niya si Erven. Hindi siya sigurado kung bakit ganoon na lang kalaki ang tiwala niya sa lalaking ito kahit sabihin pa na hindi ito isang ordinaryong nilalang. He was amazing, he was extraordinary -- but for a reason.
And she knew how dangerous those reasons were. Dangerous to the point that Lei should be scared of Erven and his powers. But even with that knowledge, she couldn't bring herself to be scared of him. Funny, right?
"Lei!"
Napalingon siya sa pinagmulan ng pamilyar na tinig na iyon. Hindi na niya napigilang mapangiti nang makita ang paglapit ng lalaking kanina lang ay iniisip niya.
"What are you doing here? Aren't you suppose to be resting? Your injuries haven't fully healed yet."
Lei sighed. "Alam ko. Pero nakakabagot din namang nasa kuwarto ako palagi, 'no? Besides, I didn't leave the property because I know this place is barrier-protected. I don't want to make you worry anymore than this, so I stayed here."
"Pasensiya ka na. Alam kong nababagot ka na sa loob."
Umiling siya at nginitian si Erven. "Ako, mababagot? Nandito ka naman, 'di ba? At alam kong hindi mo ako pababayaan."
Erven didn't stay anything. Instead, he sat beside her on the boulder she was sitting at to watch the view of the sunset.
"Do you regret choosing to be with me, Lei?" he asked all of a sudden.
Without a doubt, it caught her off-guard. Napatingin siya rito nang marahas dahil doon. "Why are you asking me this all of a sudden? May nangyari ba?"
Umiling ito at huminga ng malalim, para bang nais nitong tanggalin ang anumang mabigat sa dibdib nito. "You got hurt because of your involvement with the likes of me. Your life before was peaceful. That is, until I came and ruined it."
"Erven, don't say that. You didn't ruin anything. Ako na ang nagsasabi sa 'yo, okay? And I got hurt not only because of you. Mas malaki ang kasalanan ko sa bagay na iyon. I have something that they wanted and I didn't give it to them. And I'm sure you know full well what will happen to Seohae if I give in to what they wanted."
"But Seohae had been in ruins for centuries! Kaya nga kami umalis doon, eh."
"It doesn't mean that it can't be revived. At alam iyan ng leader ninyo. I know where one of the five keys were and the enemies wanted it so bad that they'd use every trick to get it. Pero hindi ako tanga para ibigay lang iyon nang basta-basta, kahit alam kong ikapapahamak ko 'yon."
Ilang sandali pa ay hinawakan ni Lei ang nakakuyom na kamao ni Erven sa tabi niya. Slowly, he loosened his clenched fist and faced her. "What did I do in my last life to deserve someone like you?"
Hindi niya napigilang ngumiti at hinigpitan pa ang hawak niya sa kamay ng binata. "You fought hard for what you believed. You defended what you love with your life. And you promised that you'll do it again in this life. This time, with the intention of staying alive through it all. And I know you will."
"Because I have you as my reason to do just that."
Pagkatapos niyon, walang babalang niyakap siya ni Erven nang mahigpit. Hindi niya napigilang mapaluha sa nararamdamang kakaibang higpit niyon, na para bang nararamdaman din niya mula roon ang takot nito. Hindi na lamang siya nagsalita at hinayaan ito sa gustong gawin.
Erven knew what it was like to lose someone important. It was one reason why he ended up closing his heart. And then he crossed paths with Lei. But no matter how much he felt their meeting as nothing more than a mistake, his heart would scream at him for having such thoughts.
Si Lei ang pinakamalaking dahilan niya ngayon kung bakit siya patuloy na lumalaban. Hindi lang dahil sa utos ng leader niya mulang nang mapatunayan nilang isa si Lei sa mga key bearers. Since his past life, he knew that the reason why he was restless was because of looking for something -- or someone. One that would stop his heart from feeling so restless.
Now he found her. And now, he would never let her go.
"Thank you for staying, Lei."

Writer's note: After a long time, may nagawa na rin akong isulat para sa character na inspired (or at least I tried it to be inspired) kay Suga/Min Yoongi. Dedicated ito kay Avonlei na friend ko sa FB na kahit hindi na kami masyadong nagkakausap (dahil hindi naman ako masyadong bumibisita sa FB for a long while) ay nagawa ko na ring isulat ang request niyang one-shot nila (hehe!) ni Suga. By the way, the name "Seohae" was a kingdom in which the Guardians (yes, iyon din ang ginamit kong term sa kanila) came from before it was destroyed, forcing them to seek refuge in another world (Earth). Only 7 out of the 10 Guardians survived the attack, and they made it their duty to find a way to restore it... somehow. At iyon ang kailangan ko pang pag-isipan kung paano ko gagawin.
